An enthusiastic welcome by the Club to Dawn Smith BEM.
It is not possible, in this article, to encapsulate all of Dawn’s amazing achievements leading, amongst others, to an award of a British Empire Medal; first British women to row the Atlantic Ocean both ways; five Guinness World records following 26 years in the Essex Police rising to first female police boat skipper.
Giving a breathtaking presentation to Rotarians, members of the Inner Wheel, Guests and Friends following a meal comfortably and warmly seated in the conservatory at The Lodge, Dawn covered the good and the bad of her adventures rowing some 16800 miles alone and with others before returning to Burnham after a pairs Atlantic Crossing recently to the lighting of the Town’s warning beacon.
She raises money for the Charity Phoenix Heroes CIC, based in Colchester, dedicated to supporting Armed Forces Veterans and their families by providing vital services to help with mental health and PTSD.
The Rotary Club was pleased to support this cause with a donation and to extending an invitation to Dawn to revisit us following her next venture. More information on her website www.RowAurora.co.uk.
